The River Bervie rises in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains in Drumtochty Forest, before flowing down through the Mearns.
The bervie then passes the town of Glenbervie and under the A90, before meeting the sea at Inverbervie, which is situated between Stonehaven and Montrose. This relatively short spate river of around 20 miles drains a catchment of 50 square miles, and from its forest headwaters flows through mainly agricultural land.
The river is home to populations of Atlantic salmon and sea trout, as well as having populations of resident brown trout.
The fishing season begins on 25th February and runs until 31st October, although the best fishing is found from June onwards.
Fishing permits are available from the Inverbervie Angling Club and the Laurencekirk & District Angling Club.
Sea trout do not usually die after spawning. Around 75% of sea trout will return to the sea to feed and then come back again to the river to spawn.
